Media Release: July 2, 2024

Mount Forest, ON (July 2024) – The Louise Marshall Hospital is now home to an updated and refreshed palliative care suite that will serve patients needing end of life care.

The new palliative care suite is comprised of two rooms - one patient room plus one adjoining family room. The project began in 2018 when the late Tony Daciuk, a Mount Forest resident, gifted $25,000 to the Louise Marshall Hospital Foundation to be used toward palliative care suite upgrades at the hospital. It has since been additionally supported with gifts from other donors and families.

The project was initially started in 2019, however was paused due to the Louise Marshall Hospital redevelopment and expansion project and COVID-19. Today, the suite has now been re-opened with all-new paint, flooring and furnishings. Both the patient room and the family room feature comfortable seating, wall-mounted televisions, and wall-to-wall windows looking out onto treed greenspace. Above the palliative care bed is a therapeutic light installment featuring a gentle and serene view of blue skies, clouds and treetops. The bed has been topped with a hand-made quilt donated by the Four Corners Quilters’ Guild; a local community-based volunteer group who create quilts and donate them to local hospitals and hospices.

“We are grateful to Tony Daciuk, the other hospital donors and foundation who supported the palliative room refresh,” states Angela Stanley, LMH President and CEO. “The updated suite provides a more comfortable space, with a home-like feel for families and patients to spend quality time together.”

Amy Van Huss, Executive Director of the Foundation, said “We are so happy to honour Tony’s memory with the re-opening of the palliative care suite. It is thanks to his generous donation, and those that followed, that we were able to fund this comforting space for both patients and families during a difficult time.”
